A few weeks back, Hammersmith and Fulham Council announced their plans to install smart number plate recognition cameras to discourage drivers from taking shorter routes. Despite several claims from business owners and residents about these rules being unfair to non-residents and increasing congestion in other parts of the city, the new cameras are now live in Fulham. Any non-resident driver entering the parts of a west London borough could be fined under the new proposals.

These cameras will detect the number plates of non-residents. The following vehicles will be able to pass through the cameras without penalty:

Emergency service vehicles
Residents can offer free access to their visitors
