MOT test guide in 2024

By law, we are required to do an MOT test on our PCO vehicles every six months to ensure that all our cars are in good condition and our cars are roadworthy. This guide intends to explain how you can book your MOT test appointment and what things you must consider to pass the test.

How to book an appointment

Seven days before the expiration of the MOT certificate, we will contact you and arrange an appointment for you over the phone. You have the option to choose your preferred days and time which suits your schedule the most. Alternatively, you can log into your G&M Direct Hire mobile application and make the appointment yourself.

Common reasons for cars failing the MOT test

Lit-up warning light on the dashboard.
Stickers on the windscreen blocking the driver’s view.
Cracks and chips on windscreen wider than 10mm.
Significant damage to any parts of the car.
Tyres should have at least the minimum legal tread depth of 1.6mm.
Seats and seatbelts: Damaged seats and Faulty seatbelts.
Faulty wipers.
Abnormal smoke from the exhaust.

How long would it take to do the MOT test?

The MOT test usually takes between 20-30 minutes to complete. However, if the car needs tyre replacement or minimum repairing, it will take longer to complete the test.

What happens if the vehicle fails the test?

If your vehicle fails the test, the MOT centre will provide you with a set of reasons for the car failing the MOT test. Our MOT test centre will notify us, and we will make the necessary arrangements and arrange another appointment for you.

Once your vehicle passes the MOT test, the MOT test centre will provide you with an MOT test certificate, and a copy of the certificate will be sent to us separately. You can take a photo of the test certificate and then upload the new certificate into our ridesharing apps (Uber, Bolt, Ola, Freenow).
